Call for Participants
The search is on for potential participants for our qualitative research in the East of England with people who have been bereaved in the last 6 to 18 months.
In the second half of September we will be hosting creative consultation groups in Bedford, Bishop's Stortford, Colchester, Ipswich, King's Lynn and Peterborough.
The research will be used to help improve support and information services for people who are bereaved in the East of England. If you know of anyone who has lost someone close to them in the last 6 to 18 months and who would be interested in participating in the research please direct them here
Measuring Social Impact for NORCAS
Cultural Intelligence is to partner the East of England's largest provider of services to people with drug, alcohol and gambling problems in an ambitious programme to identify and measure the full extent of the organisation's social impact.
The first stage of a two year programme will be to involve stakeholders in identifying the full scope of outcomes from the organsiation's programmes which support people in reducing addictive behavior. We will then work with the organisation to develop ways of measuring these and finally in attributing value to them.
Research with bereaved adults
Our creative approach to qualitative research is to receive its greatest test in a programme of research relating to one of the most sensitive of all subjects.
The innovative study, commissioned by Eastern Development Centre on behalf of the NHS East of England seeks to identify the most important elements of support and information for the people most close to someone who has recently died. We will be conducting creative workshops across the East of England with up to 72 people.
Working with our Creative Associate, the artist Caroline Wright and Research Associate Amanda Bradshaw, the participants will explore their recent experience of bereavement and the factors that made the greatest difference in support and information they received from health and care staff.
We are confident that our creative approach will provide the best possible context for participants to explore their feelings with minimum pain while contributing to the future development of bereavement services across the East of England.

Research reports published
Two new reports have been published on the downloads page of the CI website.
The Suffolk Libraries Consultation was an innovative public consultation programme involving 'hard to reach' groups including people with mental health issues, people with physical and/or learning disabilities, family carers and older people . The consultation used creative consultation methods to involve over 100 people in creative consultation to explore their experience of libraries in Suffolk.
The Information Game was another qualitative research programme commissioned by Suffolk County Council. This study used creative consultation to explore the information needs of people from hard to reach groups such as people with physical disabilities, people with learning disabilities, people with mental health issues, older people, family carers and people for whom English is not a first language.

The future of adult social care
We all want to live long and healthy lives and die peacefully in our sleep but how many people really give themselves the best chance of achieving this?
Encouraging people to change their behavior for a benefit which may well be a long time in the future is one of the greatest challenges in social marketing. The key is to start with where people are at already. This demands thorough research to understand people's attitudes and values and the associated barriers and opportunities.
Commissioned by Suffolk County Council, Cultural Intelligence has embarked on a programme of consultation with active elderly people to discover how they can be encourage to take the simple steps that help build the communities that enable people to thrive in their own homes rather than survive in expensive care homes.
We will also be conducting similar work with people who are already engaged with social care services and then conducting trials of different communications approaches.
Eric to swim for family carers
CI Director Eric Orme is to raise funds for Suffolk Family Carers in the Great East Swim to take place at Alton Water, Suffolk on 19th June.
His decision to support the charity arises directly from the research we have been doing with Family Carers over the last 18 months. Eric has been struck by the enormous daily challenges that family carers face and hugely impressed by the work of Suffolk Family Carers.

CI report is top of the downloads chart
A report prepared by Cultural Intelligence on behalf of the Arts Councils in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland is among the top five most popular downloads from the Audience UK website.
Published in 2006, the report used innovative data analysis techniques to finally resolve concerns over the extent to which box office sales data can be used to talk about people who attend with the booker or who book at the last minute and for whom data is not captured. You can download the report at http://www.audiencesuk.org/
Library refurbishment - creative consultation
Cultural Intelligence has been commissioned to lead the creative consultation on the £5m refurbishment of the Bury St Edmunds library.
We will be working with groups of young people and families to ensure that the new library meets their needs. Artist, Caroline Wright will again be working with us on this project.
Web user trials
Suffolk County Council is transforming its' web presence to make it far more user-centered. Cultural Intelligence will be leading the research effort to inform the new design including user-trials of the new site in the development stage. Get involved
The Information Game
How would you go about consulting groups such as people with learning disabilities, people with mental health issues and people for whom English is not a first language, about the information needs?
Working with Artist Caroline Wright, Cultural Intelligence has developed a board game called 'The Information Game' which helps participants explore how they get the information they need to live a full life.
The project, commissioned by Adult and Community Services at Suffolk County Council, will report in early 2010 and will inform the development of an information strategy for adults in Suffolk.
